Of monkeys and donkeys: Everyone’s having a wild time at the Hirschwirtscheuer in Künzelsau, Germany.

For the very first time, the Würth Collection hosted an art competition for children, teens, and school classes from Baden-Württemberg, Germany, a competition that was all about animals. Every creative entry will be on display at the Hirschwirtscheuer.

For the competition, the Museum Würth team selected six works of art from the Würth Collection, each exploring the subject of animals in its own unique way, including Tomi Ungerer’s wild creatures made out of everyday objects and natural finds, HAP Grieshaber’s colorful print of a peacock, Ray Smith’s painting of a fantastical creature, Nadin Maria Rüfenacht’s photographic still life of various animals, and Karel Appel’s majestic wooden horse and rider.

Inspired by these ideas, around 1,000 children and teens took part in the competition and let their imaginations run wild. The exhibition “Having a wild time!” will present a wide range of animal interpretations.

The children and teens were able to enter the competition with their entire classes, their art clubs, or individually, submitting more than 1,000 works of art that will be on display at the Hirschwirtscheuer in Künzelsau.
